Welcome to Oak View/Ojai

A small family-friendly town surrounded by majestic mountains

Located in a narrow valley along the Ventura River, Oak View is a small family-friendly town just a short drive from Los Angeles. The city of Oak View is next to Ojai, another beautiful community in Ventura County. Ojai is surrounded by the majestic Topatopa Mountains and is often referred to as the “Shangri-La” of California. Ojai and Oakview are the second and third largest Ventura communities, respectively. Commuters can appreciate the quick commute to other major California cities, such as Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

These cities are primarily residential but have a nice blend of outdoor spaces with shopping and restaurant options allowing residents to have everything they need without leaving the city. Ojai’s Mediterranean climate makes for great produce, including grapes, so there’s no shortage of good wine and lovely wineries.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Ojai has plenty of long-standing and family-owned restaurants serving fantastic food. The Ranch House has been serving Ojai high-quality gourmet food for over 70 years. They are committed to continuing the Italian tradition by using local and fresh ingredients in their kitchen. Their seasonal menu includes Italian classics and innovative dishes, such as pasta puttanesca and filet mignon bites.
Boccalis is another family-owned Italian restaurant that serves fresh farm-to-table ingredients. Guests can build their own pizzas or choose from the vast menu of pasta, lasagna, and fresh salads. The Deer Lodge is Ojai’s oldest restaurant and tavern and has served as a gathering place for Ojai residents for decades. They offer classic Californian cuisine, a wide range of craft brews and spirits, and vegetarian and vegan-friendly options.

Ojai is known for its thriving grape production, so there’s no shortage of wineries around town. The Ojai Vineyard sources the freshest grapes from vineyards around Santa Barbara County to create their exceptional wines. Wine club members have access to free wine tastings, access to exclusive events, and storewide discounts.

After a good meal and great wine, there’s nothing better than a little retail therapy. Rains of Ojai is a family-owned specialty store serving Ojai for over 100 years. This shop has everything from men’s and women’s apparel to gourmet kitchen goods, including specialty foods, home accessories, a garden section, and hardware. If you need new furniture, DeKor & Co is a must-visit. This interior and landscape design company boast three showrooms with an eclectic mix of vintage furniture, fabrics, and accessories.

Things to Do

Ojai hosts several festivals annually, providing residents with endless fun and entertainment. The Ojai Wine Festival, Ventura Counties' longest-running wine festival, takes place by the scenic Lake Casitas. This festival features unlimited beer and wine tasting, a beer garden with over thirty craft beers, and a selection of local restaurants and gourmet food trucks selling delicious food.

The Ojai Valley Lavender Festival demonstrates and promotes the many uses of lavender to educate the public and potential farmers about the benefits of plants that celebrate the city’s Mediterranean climate. Guests can enjoy live music, food vendors, and the soothing aroma of lavender wafting through the air. The Lavender Festival even gives back to the community by offering scholarships for education in agriculture, or the benefits of lavender, to Ojai residents.

April is Ojai Pixie Month — one of the most exciting times of the year. Ojai’s unique climate offers ideal growing conditions for the small, sweet tangerines. They are honored annually with this community-wide celebration. Residents can visit local grocers or Farmers’ Markets to see, smell, and taste why Ojai is famous for these delicious citrus fruits.

For 75 years, the Ojai Music Festival has been a hallmark for innovative musical experiences with a narrative curated by a different music director each year. Each music director is given the freedom and resources to imagine four days of musical exploration, creating a unique lineup to express their creativity. Guests can also access food vendors, gifts, mementos, and souvenirs
